At St Clare’s, wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that each young person should be treated with respect, and we understand that strong relationships within our community are fundamental to personal growth and academic success. When students, teachers, and families are connected, supported, and respected, it creates a positive environment where everyone thrives.

St Clare’s gives priority to establishing a safe and supportive school environment focusing on positive relationships. This emphasis recognises that the physical, social and emotional health of our students are the critical foundation for effective learning and personal development.

We understand that wellbeing and learning are closely linked, as when students feel safe, valued, and part of a caring community, they are more likely to engage fully in their education, leading to improved outcomes. Our commitment to wellbeing is drawn from our core values which emphasise the importance of creating a sense of belonging. This sense of connection not only fosters emotional resilience but also motivates students to reach their full potential, both in the classroom and beyond.

Social & Emotional Learning
At St Clare’s, our social and emotional curriculum is centred on the evidence based approach of the “You Can Do It!” program. This approach delivers social and emotional learning to all students from Prep to Year 6. The program is built around five core competencies that are designed to help students develop the emotional and social skills they need to face challenges, form positive relationships, and achieve their personal and academic goals.

-
Resilience teaches students how to bounce back from setbacks, manage stress, and remain optimistic when things don’t go as planned. It helps them develop the mental strength to keep moving forward in the face of adversity.
-
Persistence encourages students to keep going, even when tasks are difficult or progress is slow. By fostering a growth mindset, students learn the importance of effort and determination in achieving success, rather than giving up at the first sign of struggle.
-
Getting Along focuses on building healthy relationships, teaching students the value of empathy, cooperation, and conflict resolution. This competency helps students understand how to work effectively with others, resolve disagreements respectfully, and contribute positively to a team or community.
-
Organisation is about developing strong time-management skills, setting goals, and prioritising tasks. It empowers students to stay on top of their responsibilities and manage their workload effectively, reducing stress and improving their ability to succeed.
-
Confidence helps students believe in their abilities and personal value. It encourages them to take on new challenges, step outside their comfort zone, and trust in their potential, which boosts both their academic performance and personal growth.

Together, these five competencies support the development of well-rounded individuals who are not only academically capable but also emotionally intelligent, socially skilled, and ready to face life’s challenges with a positive attitude.

Student Leadership
At St Clare’s student leadership is a valuable opportunity for students to develop their skills in being leaders, organisers, and active members of our community. Through the many student leadership roles, students can contribute to decision-making within the school and take on responsibilities for a variety of school activities.
In 2025, our student leadership positions will be:
-
School Captains
-
Faith & Mission Leader
-
Social Justice Leader
-
House Leader (Red, Blue, Green & Gold)
-
Environmental Leader

Buddy Program
The Buddy Program is designed to provide support between junior and senior students by creating friendly and caring school communities. Our Buddy Program helps students entering their first year of primary school to feel safe, valued and connected to the school community. The school pairs new primary school students with an older buddy.

At St Clare’s our Year Fives are buddied with Preps to create a two year cycle where they our Preps meet their buddy in their first year and this friendship carries through in Year One where their buddy will be in Year Six.
Our Year Four students help with Prep transition to begin the Buddy Process prior to our students starting at St Clare’s.
Throughout the year, students meet at various times to share in activities to help foster this relationship.

PBL
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a framework that helps schools to plan and implement practices across the whole school in order to improve educational and behavioural outcomes for all students.
The PBL framework is founded on a positive approach to whole school well being, with targeted approaches for students needing more support.
Through a thorough process involving students, parents and staff, St Clare’s have decided on the values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, KINDNESS & SAFETY as being the values that we are working towards instilling in all St Clare’s students.
Under the ‘umbrella’ of our four values are our Expected Behaviours that are explicitly taught across all grade levels, through classroom activities and whole school instruction.
Introducing, modelling and reinforcing positive social behaviour is an important component of a student’s educational experience.
PBL works on the assumption that we cannot assume that students know how to behave. Students must be explicitly taught the behaviours we want them to demonstrate. Behaviours need to be taught, modelled, practised and rewarded.
